5 Books to Devour This Fall
Hello, my friends and colleagues!
Hope that each of you is having an enjoyable and productive day!
Books are one of my favorite things on this earth. Truly. There is nothing better than cracking open a spine of a new book – with a highlighter and pen in hand. My friends make fun of me, because I literally haven’t read a fiction book in about 15 years. So, I read – and devour – all kinds of non-fiction books.
Since, I have read literally hundreds of books about careers and business, I thought I would share some of my favorite books that can help out your career(including some essential non-career related books!). The Back of the Napkin (Expanded Edition): Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures
Feb 26, 2013 | Deckle Edge
by Dan Roam
This book is truly incredible. It has changed the way I present ideas to colleagues. Pictures are worth a thousand words – and this book showcases both how and why you can transform the way you communicate by drawing pictures. It might seem silly, but try using pictures to communicate what you are trying to say – rather than writing it or saying it – will transform the way you think. Check it out!
Will It Waffle?: 53 Irresistible and Unexpected Recipes to Make in a Waffle Iron
Aug 26, 2014
by Daniel Shumski'
Waffles? Why are you talking about waffles in this post? Because waffles are amazing. And if you have an amazing meal, you can produce amazing things at work. There’s the connection. And because they are delicious.
Anyways, this book is so fun! One of my favorite recipes was using chickpea flour to make a falafel waffle – and it rhymes!!! If you have a toaster at your workplace, you could make one of those for lunch. Yummy!
The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can Make a Big Difference
Jan 7, 2002
by Malcolm Gladwell
Curious why and how things change over time? This little book perfectly describes how small changes can have big effects over time. It articulates how small numbers of people can change the entire world through a ripple effect that eventually becomes the “tipping point” for big change. It gives relevant examples to put the concepts into context.
There is a reason that this book has been a top seller for so many reasons: it is a game changer.
The mission of Pin & Pivot is to bring kindness and professionalism back to the workplace. That will take small changes by small numbers of people…and eventually the tipping point will be a better workplace for the next generation.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing
Oct 14, 2014
by Marie Kondō
Tiny books often carry a big punch. This little book felt like a punch in the gut when I first picked it up at the bookstore. Seeing all of the opportunities to better organize my life was terrifying and exciting at the same time. You see, my office is really organized, but my home is a bit of a mess. While I can thrive in the workplace with organization, there is a longing to keep my house just as organized as my office. In fact, my house’s messiness can distract me from being productive at the workplace.
So, let’s do this one together. Let’s declutter and organize our lives so that we can be our best selves and bring our best to our workplaces!
Words to the Rescue: The sentiment guide for the tongue tied. 1000 thoughtful things to write on the card when you don't have a clue.

by Steve Fadie
An oldie but goodie. This book has been in my briefcase for almost 10 years! As a huge proponent of sending handwritten cards and notes, sometimes I don’t know exactly what to say, so I need some inspiration. This reference book gives super easy ways to say what exactly what is on your mind.
Keep a copy of this book near your thank you notes and see how gratitude and appreciation can change your career!!!
Hope you get a chance to enjoy one or all of these books this fall. The fall feels like another reset button, so take the time to develop yourself or fill yourself up with some yummy waffles!
